Has a past trauma left you feeling stuck? Previously, only major events were considered to be trauma. But trauma can be defined as anything that happened in your life that left a lasting, negative impression. These traumas are held in your mind, body, and spirit, and can manifest in ways that contribute to suffering. You do not have to be haunted by these ghosts of your past. You can reclaim your mental health and your life.

Does your anxiety or depression feel like an overbearing weight on your shoulders or stop you from fully functioning in your life? Many of life’s experiences can contribute to fear, worry, sadness, or hopelessness. You have the power to separate yourself from these negative emotions and live the life you want to live.

At times, do you feel like you have lost control of your emotions, behaviors, or relationships? Have you impulsively made decisions that have had negative consequences? In our work together, you’ll increase your mindfulness and learn useful skills to take back control of your life and live in a way that you are proud of.

My goal is for you to regain control of your life and teach you the skills necessary to do so. I provide a warm, judgment-free space and a listening ear. I specialize in EMDR, IFS, DBT, and ACT to personalize treatment for your specific situation. I view each client through a holistic lens and believe that wellness is achieved when there is a balance in mind, body, and spirit. I am here to guide you on your journey to live a more rich, full, and meaningful life.

Trauma

Any experience that leaves a lasting, negative impression on you is considered a trauma. Thinking back on your life, have you ever experienced something that still has a residual impact? Are there parts of your life that you cannot fully remember or have avoided thinking about? Perhaps you have nightmares, intrusive thoughts or images of traumas, or notice that your heart races at the reminder of past experiences. With a combination of EMDR, IFS, and ACT, I can help you detach from these painful memories, process through and better understand them, and reach a place of acceptance with what happened to you.

Mood & Personality Disorders

Do you struggle with impulsivity or feeling as though you have little control over your behaviors? Have you noticed that your relationships seem chaotic and difficult to manage? Does your mood quickly shift and you find yourself going from 0 to 100? Through Dialectical-Behavior Therapy, you can learn skills to enhance your mindfulness, communication within relationships, ability to regulate your emotions, and ability to tolerate crisis situations or unhealthy urges.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Do you have recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that cause distressing emotions such as anxiety, fear, or disgust? Do you feel locked into a cycle of behaviors that are interfering in your life? You can find relief from the repetitive nature of OCD. With my help, you can improve your life at school and work, develop and enjoy relationships, and pursue leisure activities.

Who is Kayla Casper?

Kayla was born and raised in New York (the countryside, not the city-side), where the cows outnumber the people and they specialize in growing onions. She relocated to South Carolina in 2020 due to a desire for warmer weather and her love of the ocean.

Kayla’s passion for therapeutic work was sparked by her own mental health journey that began in high school and was further supported by her hunger for helping others. The words “Be the change you wish to see in the world” guide both her personal and professional life.

Kayla received her Bachelor’s in Human Services at Cazenovia College in Cazenovia, NY, and her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling at The College at Brockport, State University of New York. Due to her awareness that traumatic experiences contribute to many mental health concerns, she has advanced her knowledge through completing a 96-hour Trauma-Informed Care and Counseling certificate program. The majority of Kayla’s career has been spent in outpatient, community mental health centers treating adults with a wide variety of concerns, from anxiety and life transitions to bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

When not working, Kayla enjoys a variety of outdoor activities—surf fishing, kayaking, searching for fossilized shark teeth, and going for walks—as well as painting, reading, playing with her dog, traveling, and cooking. She also has a goal of trying all the coffee shops in the Greater Charleston Area!
